Local-first by design

The overwhelming majority of Hexabench tools — viewers, formatters, encoders, decoders, generators, and converters — run entirely in your browser. Files you open (Parquet, CSV, Avro, JSON, and others) and values you paste (JWTs, Base64 strings, SQL, YAML) are processed locally using JavaScript and WebAssembly. They are not uploaded, logged, or stored by us. Closing the tab removes the data from memory.

Server-assisted features

A small number of advanced tools send data to our backend for processing because the required engines cannot run in a browser — for example Excel and ORC file parsing, SQL dialect conversion and lineage parsing, and metadata inspection for Delta Lake and Iceberg tables. Data sent to these endpoints is processed in memory to produce your result and is not retained.

AI-assisted features (such as the Spark log explainer) forward the text you submit to a third-party AI provider (OpenAI) to generate the analysis. Do not submit confidential data to AI-assisted tools if that is a concern — the non-AI tools never do this.

Local storage

Some tools (like the Code Snippet Manager) save your work in your browser's local storage so it persists between visits. That data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Analytics and cookies

Hexabench does not require accounts and does not sell or share personal data. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested page) may be produced by our hosting provider for operational and security purposes.
